ALWAYS NOW AND SOON

Zwei Hexen Ohne Besen exists for projects that do not easily fit within normal expectations of creative practice or commercial enterprise.

Both a concept and a collective, we are undriven by markets and unobsessed with self-promotion.  We do those things we find necessary, knowing that each action will find its purpose.  It does not matter if you find us, but we are happy if you do.

ZWEI HEXEN OHNE BESEN… ABER MIT KATER

So actually, this site was meant to be all about herbs and sustainable gardening. Yet, this gardening endeavour has to wait a bit longer (as neither garden nor balcony have yet materialized-though I keep on trying, hex hex) … However, having successfully grown four (!!!) warts on my ring-finger, and not having done anything with this site for two years, now, I think the time is right to start filling this empty space – with one of my many addictions – herbal spirits. So witch neither needs broomstick nor garden if vodka and thus Kater are to be had 😉.
I was given a bag full of rosemary by a friend whose garden seems to be the epicentre of rosemary - north of Italy. Not knowing what to do with it, it just stood there in its paper bag on my kitchen floor, making my apartment smell really nice (hint to myself: fuck air-freshers, go & get yourself more friends with penchants for herbal gardening, it even eradicated the smell of frying garlic in oil). So, a couple of weeks later, I looked around in my kitchen and found a mediocre bottle of vodka that I originally bought for making a sloe-infused spirit…
So let’s get this Kater going: I separated the needles from the twigs and shredded them to about 2 mm pieces in a mixer. Then I first filled the rosemary into an empty bottle and just poured the vodka on top of it and closed the bottle with a cork. After about 1 week, the vodka had a nice moss-green colour and the needles had settled at the bottom of the bottle. Ready to drink, yay!
So I poured about 20 ml of this lovely rosemary vodka over four ice-cubes, added the juice of at least one lemon and a dash of liquid stevia (honey might also come in nice). Then, I filled the remainder of the glass with soda water. Super refreshing, tastes like yummy mossy cough-medicine-on-summer-holiday (not sure I am selling this right). But as a witch I guess I like the odd thing or two, including cough medicine and cellar smell (or is this due to having lived for too long in Austria) sorry bad German humour. Anyways, Kater here we come!

BETWIGGED

Sometimes magic happens, more often than not I recognize it in nature. This leave floated in the middle of the forest, dancing in the wind without being attached to anything. (It turned out, it got caught in a thread of spider web)... but what are the chances?! Sometimes getting up early has a reward (and sometimes it doesn't ;)
